A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER RUYI
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The ruyi is carved through thin layers of red lacquer to a yellow ground. The terminal head is decorated with floret diaper, bordered by a band of plantain leaves and a further band of vertical lines. One side of the shaft is decorated with floret diaper, while the other side with stylised brocade pattern. The rounded knob between the terminal head and shaft is further carved with florets.
