A DUTCH DELFT POLYCHROME FIGURE OF A 'THIEF AND A LIAR'
LATE 18TH CENTURY
The prisoner modelled standing chained to a pole on a two-stepped brown platform, supporting himself with a staff in his right hand, wearing a manganese tricorn hat, blue and white jacket and waistcoat, blue breeches and manganese shoes, with a notice hung around his neck inscribed dief en soldaris (restoration to neckerchief, pole at back, hat, arms, right hand, staff and footrim, minor chipping to glaze)
