VENETO, EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Inlaid overall with foliate sprays, the inverted breakfront rectangular top centred by a parrot amidst interlaced floral sprays, above three conformingly-decorated moulded drawers centred with grotesque masks, the sides centred by lozenges, with moulded plinth base
36½ in. (93 cm.) high; 56 in. (142 cm.); 25¼ in. (64 cm.) deep

The general shape, inverted breakfront façade and sparse scrolling foliate decoration relate the present commode to several cassettoni in the Museo Civico di Padua, Veneto and illustrated in C. Santini, Mille Mobili Veneti, L'Arredo domestico in Veneto dal sec. XV al. sec. XIX', vol. II, Le Province di Verona, Padova e Rovigo (see fig.103, p.64) and in. C.
