Woven in wools and silks, depicting 'The Return of Elena' within an elaborate strapwork border decorated with flower-filled vases and allegorical figures representative of 'Dilegentia', 'Experientia', 'Poesis', 'Labor', 'Architechtura' and 'Amor Vincitomnia', within a beige and blue outer strip, with weaver's mark 'LB'

This tapestry and the following are both signed by the unidentified weaver 'LB'. Identical borders also signed by 'LB' include a tapestry depicting 'The Procession of the Arc of the Covenant' sold anonymously, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 25 May 1968, lot 155, a scene with David carrying the head of Goliath in a procession, from the property of Fanny W. Le Roy, sold Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 5-6 June 1952, lot 251, and a scene of a messenger kneeling before a King, sold from Shodwell Park, Sotheby's, London, 21-22 October 1992, lot 215.
