A GROUP OF FOUR AGATE SNUFF BOTTLES

One bottle is carved using the honey and caramel areas of the stone to depict a monkey on a spotted deer below birds in flight. Another bottle is of rounded rectangular form and has vertically striated veins of toffee brown, amber and beige. The bottle of a rich caramel-beige tone, is carved to one side with a Buddhist lion and a cub in high relief. The last bottle is of flattened rounded form, decorated to each side of the body with a pair of butterflies between a xi-character. The sides are carved with a pair of Buddhist lion-head masks, and the stone is of a pink-white tone with peach-coloured flecks.
The tallest 3¼ in. (7.8 cm.) high overall, all with stoppers (4)
