The example from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is probably a cast from a French Renaissance original. It displays the letter H and a crescent symbol, this possibly relates to King Henri II of France (1519-1559) and his mistress Diane de Poitiers (1499-1566).
Some of the 'master' frieze panels are believed to have been created as part of the post WWII restoration of bomb damage to the Palace of Westminster, London.
