Cast from the reduction originally in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The first century BC marble originally commissioned to celebrate the peace in the Roman Empire under the Rule of Augustus (63 BC - 14 AD) following the Roman victories in Spain and Gaul. The monument was excavated in the first part of the 20th century and was reassembled circa 1937 alongside the Tiber River, Rome, where it is now housed in the Museo dell'Ara Pacis.
