KHORASSAN, NORTH EAST IRAN, LATE 16TH CENTURY
From a manuscript of Yusuf wa Zulaykha, gouache heightened with gold on paper, one folio depicting Yusuf with a large flaming nimbus serving Zulaykha and her female companions who are astounded by his beauty, on green ground, the other folio with illustration of Yusuf's dream of the wolves attacking his father's flock of sheep, on light blue ground, each folio with couplets of elegant nasta'liq above and below and 12ll. of nasta'liq in two columns on reverse, mounted, each with gold decorated margins and page numbers in red, very small areas of flaking to skin colour
