A FINELY MODELED DEHUA FIGURE OF A SEATED GUANYIN
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The elegant figure is shown seated with the left arm supported by a one-legged arm rest while holding a fly whisk in the left hand and resting the right hand on the raised right knee. Her layered robes are tied with a knotted cord and fall in graceful folds around the body. The face is modeled with delicate features, and the hair is worn in knotted tresses that fall across the shoulders, and in a topknot secured by a hair pin. The maker's mark He Chao Zong is incised within a double gourd on the back, and the characters erdi are incised on the base. The glaze is of ivory tone.
