Three almost identical dressing tables appear in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books between 1827-32 (folio 3567, January 1827; folio 3715, June 1829; and folio 3912, October 1832) but more than twenty variants are shown in the firm's archives. Such tables were available in cheaper "baywood" (Honduras mahogany) or more expensive "mahogany" (Jamaican or Cuban mahogany) or combinations of the two. The present table, which uses both, was evidently a mid-price version.
