The kings and queens representing Imperial emperors and empresses, the knights on horse back, the rooks as elephants, the pawns as warriors, losses and three pieces missing to the white side - two pawns and the queen
The king: 3½ in. (8.5 cm.) high
In a Victorian decoupage box, inside a handwritten note with the following inscription: 'Original box of small ivory chessmen. The chessmen belonged to Mrs. Josiah Nisbet, widow of Nelson's step-son' (29)
