A FINE FRANKLIN RECEIPT: "Receiv'd July 3. 1789 of Mr. Thomas Franklin, Thirty Pounds in full for One Years Interest of his & Hannah Rhoads's Bonds due the 28th past." Thomas Franklin was no relation to Dr. Franklin. A Philadelphia merchant, he was the son of a New Yorker also named Thomas Franklin. He married the sister of Samuel Rhoads, Jr., and was the administrator of his estate. A fine example of Franklin the lender during the final year of his life, and the first year of the new Federal Government he did so much to bring to life.
