He Qiaoyuan (1558-1632) was a well-known historian of the late Ming Wanli period, whose magnum opus was published under the title of Ming Shan Cang. The entire series of this publication totalled 109 volumes, and recorded the history of the Ming dynasty rulers starting from the first Ming Emperor Hongwu (r. 1368-1398) to Longqing (r. 1567-1572). The present book lists the names and biographies of famous ministers who served under Emperor Yongle (r. 1403-1425).
