AN INSCRIBED BRONZE CENSER AND COVER
LATE MING/EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The censer is cast with straight sides rising to a slightly flared rim flanked by phoenix-head handles, and standing on a cylindrical foot surrounded by lappets. The exterior is faceted into twelve upright petals enclosing dragons and chilongs one of which bearing a twelve-character inscription. The cover is pierced with cranes amid ruyi clouds, surmounted by a cylindrical finial formed as a lotus pod.
