The poetic inscription is read as 'tao ling jiu bei san jing ju, du ling shi cao bai hua tang'. This refers to the famous poets Tao Yuanming (circa. 365-427) of the Six Dynasties period and Du Fu (712-770) of the Tang Dynasty. It alludes to Tao Yuanming's wine cup and his three rows of chrysanthemum, as well as Du Fu's poetry and his studio with hundreds of flowers.
