A CANTON CARVED AND PIERCED IVORY COCKADE BRISÉ FAN AND IVORY HANGING CASE
EARLY 19TH CENTURY, CIRCA 1810
The fan is finely decorated with a small oval vignette enclosing a pagoda which is surrounded by prunus and begonia flowers on leafy stems. The case is carved in relief with figures at various pursuits.

Cockade fans open at a full 360° circle and can be either pleated or brisé. They were ordered in China for export to England. There is a pair of carved ivory cockade fans with the coat of arms and motto of the Prince of Wales, dated circa 1790, which is in the Royal Collection, London, RCIN 3683.1.
