The Eaton department store, one of Canada's largest retailers at the time, was opened by Timothy Eaton in Toronto in 1869. Between the 1930s and 1960s, the "Century Club" watches were given to employees as a reward for 25 years of loyal service, the backs engraved with the name of the recipient.
