Maharaja Dalip Singh (1838-93) was the last Sikh ruler of the Punjab. He inherited the throne from his father Ranjit Singh at the age of five after a series of bloody palace coups. After the British annexation of Punjab, Dalip Singh was exiled and spent the rest of his life in England.
A portrait of the Maharaja Dalip Singh depicting him at a similar young age dated to circa 1840 is in the collection of the Musée Guimet in Paris, (inv. 39750, Illustrated in Susan Stronge (ed.), The Arts of the Sikh Kingdoms, London, 1999, pl. 178, p. 156
