Established in 1844 at 13, rue d'Orléans-au-Marais, the Parisian workshop of H. Barbier later relocated to 11, rue des Rosiers in 1853. Known principally as a 'marqueteur, ébéniste et dessinateur', the cabinet-maker supplied a coffre de Boulle to Napoleon III at the Exposition des produits d l'industrie in 1844 (D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le mobilier français du XIXesiècle, Paris, 1989, p. 39).
