It is unusual to find a jade brush washer of such shallow and wide proportions, and with so many receptacles. The addition of the Mughal type carving on the base of the brush washer suggests that it, and perhaps its shape or function, may have been influenced by Indian carvings. It is possible that it may also have functioned as a palette.
