While the square corner-leg stool is a standard form found in classical Chinese furniture design, the addition of the slight bow in the legs of the present example makes it especially attractive. A related waisted rectangular stool, though with straight legs, is illustrated by Wang Shixiang et al. in Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture, Hong Kong, 1990, no. A16.
