Towards the end of the 15th century Michel Erhart's workshop in Ulm was one of the largest sculpture workshops in Southern Germany. During these successful years when Michel's son Gregor is also working in the workshop their styles are very close.
The present group can be compared to a Virgin and Child by Michel Erhart in the Bayerisches National museum, as well as Gregor Erharts Schutzmantelmadonna in Frauenstein, Oberoesterreich. Both groups show a marked stylistic relation to the present group, particularly the head of the Christ Child as well as the expression of the Virgin.
