Of rectangular form with canted corners, the hinged cover applied on top with a white jade lion-form plaque surrounded by champlevé enamel flower spray appliques, with enamel appliques of dragons and flowers on the faceted sides of the box, all reserved on a fine, dense filigree ground and raised on four enameled corner supports

The intricate filigree metalwork combined with the use of enamel appliques is typical of Court taste throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
Compare an enamel-inset silver-gilt octagonal box attributed to the Yongzheng period, illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, Tributes from Guangdong to the Qing Court, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1987, no. 40. A related octagonal stained ivory box on an integral base included in the same exhibition, which displays similarly arranged raised foliate decoration on a fine filigree ground, is also illustrated, no. 64.
