The firm of Michael Butler in Dublin specialised in embellishing and reproducing Irish 18th Century furniture and is recorded at this address in 1904-12 (D. FitzGerald, 'Dublin Directories and Trade Labels', Furniture History, 1985, p. 262). The firm worked extensively for the 1st Earl of Iveagh (d. 1927) and six pieces were included in the Elveden Hall house sale, Christie's, 21-24 May 1984.
