Apparently a small, graduated set of these mugs was ordered, by a person or Society unidentified as yet, Howard suggests possibly in celebration of the impending British Union of 1800 (op cit, vol I, p 759), where the author illustrates one from a private collection and cites another, slightly larger, sold Sotheby's London, 27 October 1970.
