A JAPANESE GILT-BRASS MOUNTED EXPORT LACQUER CABINET-ON-STAND
CIRCA 1640-1690, the silvered stand of later date
Decorated throughout, with floral trail bands and raised landscapes with birds and a monk, the rectangular top above a pair of doors with flower vases to the reverse enclosing a fitted interior with nine variously sized drawers, the stand with pierced acanthus carved apron centered by two cherub flanked by figural cabriole legs terminating in acanthus scrolls

This cabinet clearly shows the elements of the pictorial style of export lacquer from the Momoyama Period (late 16th Century), characterised by a lack of mother-of-pearl inlay and the doors with a pictorial decoration.
