G. Grimard is recorded to have produced 'Meubles d'Art' from premises at 5 rue de Charonne. Pieces by Grimard are comparatively rare and he appears to have favoured the neoclassical style: two tables sold Christie's, New York, 21 October 2008, lots 341 and 379 and a vitrine sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 April 2010, lot 413, all of which were, like the present lot, in the Louis XVI style. The vernis Martin panel is decorated with 'Le Lorgneur' after the famed 18th century French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau.
