Alan Hunt has been drawing wildlife since a child. Son of a North Yorkshire Steel worker, Hunt did not follow family tradition but started his studies at Middlesbrough Art College leaving after a year because of his disagreement with the teaching of abstract art. He then moved to Leeds Polytechnic and then Bristol University to study Zoology. His career then took him through to Zoo management and in particular he joined a team that set up the Abuku Game Reserve in the Gambia in 1972. In 1977 he turned to Wildlife Art full time and since then he has built up an international reputation particularly in America. In Christies Wildlife sale in June 1994, Hunts painting of a Tiger sold for 24200 pounds a world record for a work by this artist.

"The 3335 Square miles of the Altai Nature Reserve sandwiched between Siberia and Mongolia in South Central Russia is one of the few remaining strongholds of this very handsome big cat, but even here it is extreemly rare and endangered."
