Of rectangular section, surmounted by a finial formed as a mythical beast, one side incised with a poetic inscription, the reverse with two characters reading Wen Ting, probably the name of the carver, the seal face with two further characters, the stone of an attractive apricot tone

The long inscription may be translated as:
'In light of Runtang's fondness for orchids, I write him two words, Xiangzu, to denote his sincerity'. The literal translation for Xiangzu is 'the ancestor of fragrance', indicating that orchids are the most pleasingly fragrant among flowers.
