On an integrally carved base monogrammed to the underside 'MD' or 'MVD', and a later rectangular ebonised wood base with a paper label to the underside inscribed in ink 'St Rombaud et St Tommaire'; minor cracks and repairs
6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm.) high; 8½ in. (21.5 cm.) high, overall

St. Rombaud was an eighth century martyr who worked as a missionary around the town of Malines, Belgium, which today has a cathedral dedicated to his memory. He was known to be a close friend of the hermit St. Gommaire.
