Jacques Adnet (1900-1984)
Jacques Adnet was born in Chatillion-Coligny, France in 1900. He attended the Municipal School of Design in Auxerre and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and lived and worked with his twin brother Jean at the Studio La Maitrise until his 28th. There they met Art Deco designer Maurice Dufrenes. Adnet believed in the functional aspect of furniture, combined with geometrical simplicity. He was inspired by pre-classical styles and well acquainted with traditional furniture. Especially during the 50's he received numerous commissions and created furniture, like this design in cooporation with Hermès which originated around 1950. It was marketed by the Compagnie des Arts Français, which Adnet directed between 1928 and 1960.
