The thick rounded sides rising to a lipped rim, cast around the exterior in high relief with narrow bands of coiling dragons clambering amidst clouds in pursuit of 'flaming pearls', the recessed base cast with an apocryphal Xuande six-character mark

Compare the high relief casting of the dragons on the present censer with that on a censer with a very similar Xuande mark exhibited at the The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong and the Fung Ping Shan Museum, University of Hong Kong, 1986, Arts from the Scholar's Studio, no. 139, later sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 27 May 2008, lot 1912.
