'WHEN I THINK THE GOVERNMENT ARE IN THE RIGHT I SHALL SUPPORT THEM'. Nine-days after his dramatic walk across the floor of the House of Commons to take a seat next to David Lloyd George on the Liberal Party benches, Churchill asserts his political independence, announcing his intention to treat questions submitted to vote in the Commons on their merits: 'When I think that the Government are in the right I shall support them, when I think they are in the wrong I shall vote against them'. The letter concludes with the hope that a general election will take place as soon as possible.
