In his letters to Leibnitz, Samuel Clarke defends Newton who "became involved in the controversy with Leibnitz when the latter warned Caroline, Princess of Wales (to whom the book is dedicated) against the atheism of Newton, whose God he said was merely a super-mechanician." (Babson)
