The Grecian tripod candlesticks with their palm-flowered 'candle' vases stand on 'altar' tripods with 'Apollo' griffin monopodia reflect the 'antique' fashion promoted by C. H. Tatham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture, 1799 and Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807. A pair of this model were sold anonymously, Sotheby's, London, 5 July 1996, lot 3.
