A German stonebow (Schnepper) made for a child
17th century
With slender steel bow, later string of twisted cord, two baluster fore-sight pillars, iron frame with built-in gaffle stamped with a shield-shaped maker's mark of a squirrel and held by a spring-catch at the rear, exposed baluster trigger, button set-trigger, folding rear-sight, and fruitwood butt inlaid with a white staghorn roundel engraved with a running fox.
