A PAIR OF GEORGE IV OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE WINE-COOLERS
MARK OF T. AND J. CRESWICK, SHEFFIELD, CIRCA 1820
Each fluted campana-shape on spreading circular foot, with gadroon and foliate borders, with two reeded handles with lion's head terminals, with plain detachable collar and liner, each engraved with a coat-of-arms and a crest, each marked underneath
10¼ in. (26 cm.) high
The arms are those of Morewood quartering Palmer, almost certainly for William Frederick Palmer-Morewood (d.1861). He had been born William Palmer but assumed the name and arms of Morewood in 1825 having succeeded to the Morewood estate of Alfeton Hall, co. Derby. He married Clara (d.1863), second daughter of Sir Charles Blois Bt., in 1815. William was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and qualified as a barrister at the Middle Temple. He was High Sheriff of Derby in 1835, served as a J.P. in the counties of Derby and Warwickshire and was at one time the Lieutenant Colonel of the Stafford Militia. (2)
