Joseph Gengenbach, did Canabas, maître in 1766.
Canabas trained with celebrated ébénistes such as Jean-François Oeben and Pierre Migeon. He specialised in small functional pieces devoid of exaggerated ornamentation or mounts, using the finest mahogany veneers.
A related pair of tables déssertes by the ébéniste featuring pierced lyre end supports, was sold, 'Mirroir d'une Passion', Christie's, Paris, 16 December 2009, lot 472.
