The projecting molded cornice above six brass grilled doors revealing shelves over a conforming lower case with paneled doors on a stepped plinth, the side of one cabinet section with ink HR 61, the shelves backed with later silk panels, the lower doors possibly originally grilled, reduced in height

The distinctive interlaced brass grilled panels on this impressive library bookcase also feature on a suite of bookcases executed by Robert Gillows in 1811 for the library at Tatton Park, Cheshire. Though the bookcases were made in their Lancaster workshop, the grilled panels were sent up from London and then installed. The library at Tatton and its impressive furnishings were commissioned by Wilbraham Egerton who hired Lewis Wyatt to design it in the neo-classical style. The bookcases and the four commodes that Gillows also supplied can be seen in a watercolor painted by J. Buckler in 1820 (S.E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, Suffolk, 2008, vol. I, pg. 374-375, pl. 443-444).
