Although the scribe's name on the final page of this manuscript has been erased, a poem in Ottoman Turkish at the end, taken from Gelibolu 'Ali's Menakib-i Hünerveran praises the calligrapher Muhy al-Din Effendi, son of the calligrapher Jalal al-Din (Celalettin) Efendi, and nephew of the great Shaykh Hamdullah. Along with his brother Jamal al-Din (Cemalettin), Shaykh Hamdullah and his son Mustafa Dede, he is included in the ustâdân-i seb'a ('seven masters'), accredited with the development of a distinctly Ottoman style in the 16th century. Shaykh Hamdullah is said to have recommended him to Süleyman the Magnificent when the latter wanted to have a personal copy of the Qur'an made, but he was too old and ill to take on the commission (Mustafa Aslan, 'Amasyali Hattatlar', Turkish Studies 2, 2007, pp. 123-143). The poem praises in passing the calligrapher's brother, Jamal al-Din, who is also one of the 'seven masters'.
