An illustration to the Shahnama of Firdawsi, gouache heightened with gold on paper, the bearded king seated on a gold and silver throne wearing a gold qizilbash and richly decorated robe and coat, an attendant to the right holding a canopy over the king's head, to the left a standing figure, probably the hajib, holding a long black stick an introducing a third figure wearing a bright yellow robe and kneeling before the king, with gold and silver vessels arranged between them, the scene set in a rocky landscabe with flower massifs and a tree in the back, over gold ground, with text arranged in columns above and below, within gold and polychrome rules, the reverse with five columns of text in black nasta'liq with double columnar divisions, minor worm holing, marginal staining
