The moulded griotte rouge marble top above a bombé front centred by a fall-front panel finely painted with pastoral figures in woodland, flanked by foliate framed quarter-veneered doors and conforming sides, the interior with a single fixed shelf, on cabriole legs headed by ram's-mask clasps runnning to hoof sabots, the lockplate engraved 'A. CHEVRIE Fabt7 rue de Braque, Paris', the back and top of the carcass stamped 'A CHEVRIE PARIS'

A. Chevrié worked in Paris in the late 19th century and is recorded at 11 rue Portefoin from 1878 until 1886. An ébéniste of high quality, he participated in the 1878 and 1889 Expositions Universelles, winning a silver medal at the later. A member of the jury for numerous exhibitions, in 1894 he received the medal of the Légion d'Honneur.
