20th Century, blue Herend Hungary shield mark, various painted and impressed numerals
Painted with 'the Rothschild bird pattern' with two birds perched on branches between a pearl necklace, surrounded by butterflies and insects, with border outlined in gilt, comprising twelve dinner plates, 27.5 cm. diam.; twelve plates, 26 cm. diam.; twelve soup-plates, 24 cm. diam.; and twelve side-dishes, 21 cm. diam. The Rothschild Bird pattern was first created in 1850. Baroness Rothschild supposedly lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. The necklace was found by her gardener who saw birds playing with it in a tree.
