Jacobus van der Cloesen (Cloese) was born in 1699 in The Hague. In 1718 he is recorded as citizin of Leiden and appointed 'city clockmaker' in 1721.

The case of typical form, surmounted by figural giltwood finials, brass dial with painted moonphase to the engraved arch, brass seasonal spandrels to the silvered chapterring, slaan/niet slaan selection lever above 60, matted centre with silvered seconds ring, alarm setting disc, date aperture below the silvered signature plaque signed IACOBUS VAN DER CLOESE, LEYDEN, ringed winding holes, four pillar movement with anchor escapement, Dutch strike and alarm on two bells; two brass weights, pendulum, door key
