Painted with two quails beside a flowering branch of prunus and blooming shrubs, within gilt-line and brown-line rims, comprising: A pair of oval tureens, covers and stands, the stands 43 cm. wide

In the 1720s and 1730s the Meissen factory started to produce porcelain with patterns inspired by or copied from patterns found on Chinese and Japanese porcelain. August the Strong (Germany, 1670-1733), a great connoisseur of Asian porcelain, was the driving force behind this and his Japanese Kakiemon collection was used for inspiration. Various Japanese-inspired Kakiemon decorations of tigers, birds, flowers, phoenix and shishi lions are known.
