The inscription G.C.H. may refer to the honour Knight Grand Cross of the Guelphic (or Hanoverian) Order. The order was instituted by The Prince Regent in 1815 and continued in the gift of the British Monarch until 1837. Since then it has been conferred by the Kingdom of Hanover.
