Jacques Philippe Carel (1688-1755), maître in 1723.

The present table à écrire is closely related to another table by Carel featuring very similar pierced chutes d'angles, identical shaped sabots and related floral marquetry sold from the Collection of Akram Ojjeh, Sotheby Parke Bernet, Monaco, 25-26 June 1979, lot 195 (FF140,000).

Interestingly, a clear rapprochement can be drawn between the oeuvre of Carel and that of Jean-Pierre Latz (1691-1754, 'ébéniste privilégié du Roi' before 1741) who used such distinctive marquetry of floral sprays and grenades (or pomegranates) as featured on the present lot, in his oeuvre.
