The substantial construction of this clock, with its unglazed sides and heavy bronze casing, suggests that it was genuinely designed to survive the rigours of travel, more so than the majority of carriage clocks of the period.
Barraud and Lund were formed when John Richard Lund (1805-1863) joined the eminent chronometer makers Barraud and Sons (see also lot 127) in 1838. They continued making fine chronometers as well as clocks, watches and barometers trading at 41 Cornhill until 1889 and then at 12 and later 14 Bishopsgate until 1921. The company was dissolved on 10 May 1929.
