The two moulded and pierced tiles of similar design and identical size now in the Khalili collection are likely to have the same origin as the present example (J.M. Rogers, The Arts of Islam, Treasures from the Nasser D. Khalili Collection, Abu Dhabi, 2007, cat.135). They would have been set as window tiles within the walls of important buildings such as the Abbasid palaces in Raqqa, Syria, which were destroyed by the Mongols in 1256.
