The cock-beaded edge to the drawers and simple ovolo moulding on the plinth give clues as to the most likely date of c. 1730 for this elaborate chest, with a top drawer fitted with a hinged slope for writing or reading (A. Bowett, Early Georgian Furniture, Woodbridge, 2009, pp. 101-103).
